The Science of Greed

This study suggests that the wealthier you are, the more entitled you feel to put self-interest above the needs of other people. In this state of idealized self-interest, half of the participants were given the financial advantage in a game of Monopoly. The "wealthier" players moralized their increasing greed throughout the game as being good, a positive. People with more privilege and advantage in life, even when "rigged" in a game of Monopoly, may believe they are more deserving and worthy than those who have less.

In another study, prosocial behaviors of rich versus poor were conducted in regard to helping an anonymous other; the poor participants gave 44% more money to help another than their rich counterparts.
